Location

We’re getting married at Smack Mellon, a gallery and exhibition located in a neighborhood called Dumbo (stands for: Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass).

Dumbo is a beautiful neighborhood on the Brooklyn waterfront nestled betwen the Manhattan and Brooklyn bridges, and it features cobblestoned streets, lots of art galleries, and a newly expanded park.

To Do, To Eat, To Drink

  • Browse all the beautiful books at powerHouse Arena (37 Main St.)
  • Walk across the Brooklyn Bridge (where Prospect crosses Washington in Dumbo, look for the staircase that leads up to the bridge’s pedestrian walkway.)
  • One Girl Cookies gets our vote for lattes
  • Shake Shack just opened up a Dumbo location! If you go, get a burger AND a custard. It’s only right. FYI they also serve booze.
  • Jaques Torres serves up fancy chocoloate and an awesome ice cream sandwich, but if you don’t mind waiting in line, The Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory has ice cream plus a view of the Statue of Liberty

Accommodation

There are no hotels directly in Dumbo. Some guests are staying at the Nu Hotel, which is a quick cab ride away. A block of rooms that were held under the Nicksay/Amato Wedding has expired, but you can call Christina at 347-227-4851 to see if the discounted rate is still available!

The hotel website has a guide for things to eat, see and do nearby, but you’ll bump into great restaurants and shops no matter what if you walk south along Smith Street or east along Atlantic Avenue.

Other Options

There are additional options in Downtown Brooklyn (also a quick cab ride from the wedding venue):

Directions

The wedding venue is located at 92 Plymouth Street in Brooklyn. You can use this map to route yourself to and from the venue!

If you're flying, JFK or LaGuardia are the closest airports:

  • From JFK, the easiest option is a taxi. However, public transit from JFK isn’t that bad. Take the AirTrain to Jamaica Station and connect to the subway or Long Island Railroad (LIRR): here are complete directions.
  • From LaGuardia, the easiest option is also a taxi.

Note: If you want to take the subway to the weekend’s activities, the two train lines closest to Smack Mellon are the A/C and the F lines.

Registry

Having our friends and family be a part of this day — some of you traveling from far-flung locales — is the best present we could ask for! However, after a few requests, we set up an online registry.

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I wear?
Cocktail attire is perfect for the Wedding. No need to dust off that tux or ball gown, a suit or a nice dress works just fine.
For the Welcome Cocktails and Farewell Brunch: dresses are great, but so are nice jeans. No suits necessary.
What time should I come to the Wedding?
The ceremony starts at 6PM. Ideally, you'd get there at 5:45 and have time to take your seat and sip some champagne before the main event begins! The schedule is here (and you can add it to your calendar if you'd like).
What time should I come to Welcome Cocktails?
We'd love to have you starting at 8PM! The schedule is here (and you can add it to your calendar if you'd like).
Do I need to eat before I come to the wedding?
Nope! We'll feed and water you.
I'm not coming to the rehearsal dinner. Do I need to eat before I come to the Welcome Cocktails?
We'll have some snacks on hand but not a full meal.
How do I get to the wedding venue from my hotel/Airbnb/yurt?
The wedding venue, Smack Mellon, is located at 92 Plymouth Street in Brooklyn. If you are coming from the Nu Hotel, a cab or car service (which the front desk can help you with) is your best bet. Budget about 10 minutes to get there!
If you're coming from Manhattan and are planning on taking a car or a cab, it'd be a great idea to get directions ahead of time. Sometimes traffic can make the trip over the bridge kind of a long one! Your best bet is to take the traffic estimate and add 15 minutes on to it. (So if Google Maps says it'll take you 30 minutes, budget 45.)
If you're coming from another neighborhood in Brooklyn, like Williamsburg, you should also pad on some extra time to your trip.
I DON'T KNOW WHERE I'M STAYING YET!!!
Check out our Accommodations section for some ideas, and you can also shoot us an email. We'd be happy to help.
